Gingerbread Update Live for European Samsung Galaxy S

Not only are European Samsung Galaxy S smartphone owners reporting that Android OS 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) is live for update on Samsung Kies, Samsung has also released the source code.

The exciting news was reported on both xda-developers and agemobile.com, an Italian site.  Galaxy S owners would use Samsung Kies to obtain the new firmware.  Well, Samsung wants them to do it that way, some of them would find it leaked over on an xda thread.

European Samsung Galaxy S is treated as Different Smartphone than North American Varieties

Bear in mind that North American Galaxy S devices are still in various states of update purgatory, with numerous announcements of an Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) update being subsequently canceled for the different carrier flavors.  Gingerbread has not been announced for any of the North American models, and Verizon’s Samsung Fascinate is still stuck on Android OS 2.1.

But perhaps you helped yourself to one of the leaked Galaxy S Gingerbread ROMs that came out in February?  Maybe you want to look at the source code, then.  Simply head over to Samsung’s Open Source site and search for i9000, which is the model number for the popular device.

Samsung posted a number of source codes recently.  The above mentioned Fascinate has a 2.2.1 build there (search for SCH-I500), which means perhaps the poor Binged device may finally get some Froyo love while everyone else enjoys cinnamon and spice.
