Canalys has just revealed that Samsung shipped the most smartphones in Q2 2024, 53.5 million of them. The company actually shared numbers for all five top smartphone manufacturers in Q2.

Just to be clear, in mid-July, Canalys did share information for the second quarter of the year (top smartphone OEMs), but without actual shipments per brand. Well, those numbers are now here. We also know that the market has grown for the third time in a row.

Before we get down to breaking down each brand, let’s just say that the overall sales reached 288.9 million units. That is 12% more compared to the same period last year.

As already mentioned, Samsung sold most devices with 53.5 million shipments. The company claimed 19% of the market. Apple shipped out 45.6 million phones, claiming 16% of the market, and is second-placed.

Xiaomi took the third place, followed by Vivo & TRANSSION

Xiaomi sits in third place, and it’s not that far away from Apple. The company shipped out 42.3 million smartphones and claimed 15% of the market. Xiaomi is followed by Vivo. That Chinese company shipped out 25.9 million phones and took 9% of the smartphone market.

The last company that squeezed into the top 5 list is TRANSSION. That is a company behind TECNO and Infinix, by the way. It shipped out 25.5 million smartphones, so it’s not far away from Vivo. TRANSSION took 9% of the smartphone market as well.

That leaves 33% of the market for all the other companies out there. Together, they shipped out 96.2 million smartphones in Q2 2024, less than Samsung and Apple combined.

It will be interesting to see how will things proceed from here. Samsung recently announced new, powerful foldables, while Apple is expected to strike back with the iPhone 16 series in September. Xiaomi also recently announced compelling foldables, at least one of which is coming to global markets.
