Google is rolling out the “About this image” tab in Lens and Circle to Search results. People constantly resort to the company’s services to search for content related to images. It seems Google noticed this and wants to offer an even more useful output.

Google Lens and Circle to Search are closely related to each other. In fact, multiple Google services, including Search, are. That’s because they integrate the same AI-powered search algorithms from the company, and some services are actually extensions of others. For example, Circle to Search triggers a Lens search, while Lens uses the Google Search core for its results. That explains why there are common options between seemingly separate services. Also, it’s noteworthy that Circle to Search is only available on Pixel phones and some Galaxy devices.

“About this image” now available on Google Lens and Circle to Search

Now, both Google Lens and Circle to Search are receiving another shared feature: the “About this image” tab. The latter is basically a way to offer additional context about images that users search for. Initially, Google Search premiered the feature in October 2023. Its ability to detect AI-generated images is especially useful to avoid potential scams.

Now, “About this image” is available in Google Lens and Circle to Search search results too. after the “All,” “Products,” and “Visual Matches” tabs. It will offer additional information such as sites and discussions related to the image, news, articles, metadata, AI-generated labels, and more. According to Google’s blog post, the feature is available in 40 languages.

More tools to report explicit fake content in Search

Google is also working on making it easier to remove explicit fake content, including deepfakes. You can now report them directly from Search. Also, if content confirmed to be fake is removed, the system will “filter all explicit results on similar searches about them.” Additionally, sites with multiple pieces of content removed due to reports will lose prominence in search results. So, users have more tools to defend themselves in these types of situations.
