Just announced at Google I/O, the much maligned Google TV product will get an update to Honeycomb 3.1 this summer, and Android Market is coming along for the ride.

Since it’s release at last year’s I/O event, Google TV has seen setbacks from content owners blocking access via Google TV, as well as from Google when they abruptly delayed the software for “software tweaks” in December of last year.

The announcement didn’t include any content partner announcements, but the addition of Android Market, as well as the ability to develop apps for Google TV should provide a much needed shot in the arm for the device. Content owners will now be able to create their own apps to access their services, and we all know how much content owners crave control.

Sony, Vizio, Logitech and Samsung were all listed as device partners but no information on device availability was given beyond summer of this year.
