When it comes to the mobile industry, Haier is not exactly a common name you’d find and expect to create such devices. But over at CES 2016, Haier made history when it joined the tablet scene. During the event, the company unveiled their first venture into the Android tablet department, the HaierPad 971. That being said, let’s see what this device has to offer.
The HaierPad 971 comes with a 9.7-inch QXGA IPS display with a 2048 x 1536 resolution. It runs on a 1.8GHz quad-core processor with 2 GB of RAM, an internal storage of 16 GB, and a microSD card slot for up to 32 GB memory expansion. The tablet also includes an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, HD video camera, and a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera sensor. The 7,800 mAh battery on the tablet is large enough for up to 8 hours of use. The tablet comes with dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. The tablet runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, which Haier claims as the “latest Android OS version.” Except that it’s not. Android 4.4 KitKat launched in October 2013 and ever since then, Google has released Android 5.0 Lollipop and even the more recent version, Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.
Apart from the HaierPad 971, the company also announced a couple of tablets that run on Windows OS– the HaierPad W800 and the Windows HaierPad W203. The HaierPad W800 is considered as a mini Windows 8 tablet that features an 8-inch IPS HD screen with a sleek and modern look. Meanwhile, the HaierPad W203 comes with an ultra-thin frame and a 10.1-inch IPS HD display. It is powered by an Intel Z3735F quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a microSD card slot for up to 64 GB memory expansion. There is also an 8,000 mAh battery included on the device. The Windows tablets come with pre-installed Microsoft Office 365 that may be used for free for a year. An optional keyboard is available for the W800, which helps it function as a mini laptop; whereas the W203 comes with a click-in keyboard that doubles as a stand or protective casing for the tablet. Pricing and availability date for these three tablets have not yet been announced by the company.
