HTC Pushing out more Android 4.3 – Jelly Bean Updates to Devices This Week

While most of us have our eyes on KitKat. HTC is still working on updating some of their other devices to Android 4.3. While Android 4.3 really isn’t all that old, it was only announced in July making it less than 6 months old at this point, it’s not the most up-to-date version of Android. This week, we’ll be seeing a few more HTC Android 4.3 updates coming out. Which is good for HTC, but I’m wondering when we’ll start seeing Android 4.4 KitKat updates from the Taiwanese manufacturer.

The International HTC One Mini is getting an OTA right now which bumps up the device to software versions 2.12.401.1 which is based on Android 4.3 and Sense 5.5. The European HTC One already has Android 4.3, so that brings the final piece of the HTC One puzzle to Android 4.3, as the HTC One Max launched on Android 4.3.

Then there’s the Verizon HTC One, yeah the one that launched months after everyone else, and actually got Android 4.2 at launch, while the rest of the US variants of the HTC One were still on Android 4.1. It’s getting Android 4.3 this week as well with Sense 5.5. Now the reason why the Verizon HTC One is getting Android 4.3 later than every other variant of the One (well part of the reason), is because HTC decided to update the Android 4.1 running variants of the HTC One first, then the Verizon variant, since it was already on Android 4.2. The update to Android 4.3 has already been approved by Verizon, so it should be rolling out sometime this week.

Finally we’ve got the HTC One Max, the international variant. Yes the HTC One Max did launch on Android 4.3, but it’s getting a small bug fix update this week. At least in Europe. The European handset is getting updated to software version 1.54.401.1, which is still based on Android 4.3, but includes bug fixes for things like the touch responsiveness, SIM card detection, WiFi connectivity and general system stability. This update also provides a fix for the issue that users were having when posting HTC shares to Facebook, and also improves the performance for the battery-toting HTC Power Flip Case.

So what’s next? Well now we’re just waiting on Android 4.4 – KitKat to start rolling out to the HTC One, One Max and One Mini. HTC has already begun rolling out KitKat to the HTC One international and Developer Edition variants, so hopefully we’ll see the carrier variants soon, and the One Mini/One Max updates soon after.
