No more delays, or excuses from Verizon and HTC to those still rocking the Thunderbolt. Today, Verizon finally approved the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Thunderbolt. The build is 7.02.605.06. I’m sure most of you can’t believe this, but it is finally here. It’ll probably be the last phone ever upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich as well. By now, we probably don’t have to tell you whats in store with this ICS update, but here’s a quick rundown of new features:
- Face Unlock
- Data Usage stats
- Recent Apps
- Better Folder Creation
- Brand New Launcher
- Lockscreen notifications
- and more…..
Of course, I’m sure Verizon was able to stick a bit more bloatware into the update. But we aren’t for sure on that. The update is said to be about 395MB in size. It includes Android 4.0.4 and Sense 3.6, which isn’t a huge difference from Sense 3 and 3.5. You can get all the notes on the update from the source link below. Who wants to grab the update? - Go into Settings
- Tap on About Phone
- Tap on Check for Updates
The update will probably have a staggered roll out since it is rather large, and Verizon nor HTC don’t want to overload their servers with downloads. Although, I don’t know to many people that actually use the Thunderbolt as their daily driver anymore. Now that Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich has been in AOSP for about 14 months, it’s about time HTC and Verizon got around to updating the good old Thunderbolt. One of the very first LTE devices on Verizon. This device was indeed a learning device for Verizon, HTC and all the other manufacturers and carriers. Now they know what not to do with an LTE device. One is to put in a bigger battery.
Let us know in the comments below if the update is good or bad. We heard last year that HTC and Verizon wouldn’t push the update because the experience wasn’t good at all.
