The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is expected to launch in October. TSMC will mass-produce the flagship SoC (System on a Chip) using its 3nm fabrication process. The chipset will challenge the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, indicated MediaTek’s CEO.
Is the latest flagship chipset better in performance and efficiency?
As the name implies, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is the successor to the Dimensity 9300 chipset. Needless to say, the previous generation has proven to be a huge winner for the company.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC has generated over a billion dollars in revenue for the company. This is primarily because several popular smartphone makers opted to embed the Dimensity 9300 instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in their flagship devices.

The Dimensity 9300 alone, helped MediaTek post a 70 percent revenue growth in 2023. The main reason for such an impressive financial performance is due to the design choices MediaTek made.
Following Dimensity 9300’s design philosophy, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 may lack Power-Efficiency Cores. Instead, the flagship SoC, scheduled to launch in October this year, may depend on algorithms for efficient power management.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 would have ARM’s ‘BlackHawk’ CPU architecture. Previous reports claim MediaTek’s flagship silicon will feature the largest die ever.
Smartphones with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC to be available from October?
With over 30 billion transistors, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 would span a massive 150 sq. mm in surface area. The SoC is supposed to have an exceptionally large cache for blazing-fast data transfer between the CPU, GPU, and Neural Processing Unit.
Samsung has already validated the company’s new 16GB LPDDR5X RAM modules with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC. This RAM is capable of speeds up to 10.7Gbps.
Some flagship phones next year will use batteries that pushes beyond 6000 mAh in capacity while also having ultra-fast charging speeds.
If the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 focus heavily on improving efficiency, this will be a game-changer.

With such specifications, features, and capabilities, the Dimensity 9400 chipset would be a great choice for gaming smartphones. However, MediaTek should be working with multiple device makers to deploy its flagship chipset.
It is interesting to note that Qualcomm too is reportedly considering launching the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC in October. While both chipsets may launch in October, smartphones with either of these SoCs should commercially launch next year.
