Do you have the itch to keep up with the latest version of Android as soon as it’s released? Do you like the Paranoid Android custom ROM series and all the many amazing features it offers? In that case today is your lucky day, as the Paranoid Android team has updated their ROM to build 4.4 Release Candidate (RC) 1, which is built upon the Android 4.4.3 KitKat base. Before we get into all the details of the new version, let’s cover what needs to be done to update to Paranoid Android 4.4. Firstly you’ll need to make sure you flash the newest bootloader, radio, recovery and Gapps before moving forward. Many of these are included in the stock 4.4.3 AOSP update rom from Google, and since you’re moving to a new version of Android it’s probably best to go ahead and do a fresh flash anyway. Once you’ve got that all set and are unlocked and rooted again, make sure you’ve got your custom recovery installed and flash the newest Paranoid Android 4.4 for the Nexus 5 from here.
What all is included in this latest version? Besides all the goodies found in Android 4.4.3 of course, many of Paranoid Android’s key features have been updated or have received bug fixes. Hover, which is a way to pop up any app into its own floating window, is finally available in its first public state. Right now the PA team recommends only opening apps in hover that you don’t already have running in the foreground, so if you have Gmail open and get a new email don’t try to open that new email in a hover window at the same time as you’ll likely break something.
CyanogenMod’s newest theme engine that was debuted on the OnePlus One has been officially added to Paranoid Android now, giving you the most powerful customization options found anywhere. ParanoidOTA has received a new Googly style visual update that makes it more visually pleasing and falls in line with the newest of Google app design styles out there. There are plenty of other bug fixes here too, and being a Release Candidate build means that you’re likely to find significantly less updates than you would in a nightly build. All in all this is another solid update for the Paranoid Android team and a great ROM to run on one of the best phones out there.
