Huawei is a rather interesting company. This smartphone manufacturer is extremely popular in China and is actually a rather huge company. Huawei holds a ton of patents when it comes to network connectivity and have been around for a long time. They’re currently working on developing 5G technology and have started making some extremely compelling devices and software solutions. Huawei had solid devices before, but their Ascend Mate 7 handset raised that bar a bit, as well as the latest iteration of company’s Emotion UI. Huawei’s leaked lineup for next year also looks impressive, lead by the extremely powerful Huawei D8 and Mate 8, though those are only leaks at this point. Huawei had a presence abroad for a while now, but nowhere near as much as they’d like, I believe the company will try to change that in the coming months / years considering the incredible amount of competition in the Chinese market.
Anyhow, it seems like Huawei wants to dabble in some additional hardware areas, like smartglasses. Huawei’s Glory smartglasses leaked and it seems like Huawei is close to launching them actually. There’s some talk about an even on the 24th this month, I doubt Huawei will launch these smartglasses so soon, but who knows. Huawei has released a teaser via Weibo, stating the following (rough translation: “I will be more handsome than my buddies abroad.”, a statement which obviously targets Google Glass. According to My Drivers’ source, Huawei’s smartglasses will feature a display 640 x 480 in resolution and will be equipped with a 5-megapixel camera. These smartglasses will sport a bunch of sensors and will be running on Android 4.4 KitKat. Gesture recognition will be included and as you can see from the leaked image, these smartglasses will look more like an ordinary pair of glasses with an addition of this side part which will host camera, sensors, etc.
This seems interesting at the very least, but the question remains how well will these smartglasses function and how much will they cost. November 24th is rumored as the release date, though that’s not confirmed by any stretch of the imagination. Anyhow, what do you think of all this?
