The head of Samsung, JK Shin did say that we’d see a new camera today from Samsung. In which they’ve just made it official. It’s the Galaxy NX Camera. Which is their mirrorless camera, building off of the NX line of camera’s they already have. It’s running on Android 4.2.2 – Jelly Bean and has LTE radios inside. It’s important to note that this isn’t the Galaxy Camera 2. This is what Samsung calls an interchangeable-lens CSC which is a Compact System Camera, featuring a massive 20.3MP APS-C sensor with 3G and 4G LTE connectivity and it’s even being called a Galaxy. It’s also running on a Exynos 5 Octa chip. So I’m guessing they’ve caught up to demand with the Octa-core chips.
So what’s so great about a camera like this running on Android? Well that means that you can install apps like Google+, Dropbox and Instagram and share those pictures and back them up very easily. It’s the one thing I missed about the Galaxy Camera when I reviewed it earlier this year. The ability to transfer pictures over wifi. Whether it be Dropbox, Google+ or some other serivce.
The camera also features interchangeable-lens that we mentioned already along with an advanced hybrid auto-focus feature and a fast 1/6000 sec shutter speed and 8.6fps shooting for video. There was no mention about availability or pricing. But we assume it’ll hit AT&T and/or Verizon eventually. Rumors have pointed to it making a July debut in stores and on carriers. So we’ll keep our eyes out for that.
