Samsung Keyboard comes pre-installed on Galaxy devices as the default keyboard app. It is packed with useful features, including support for extensions. However, it appears that Samsung has quietly removed extensions for YouTube, Grammarly, and Spotify from its Keyboard app.
Some smartphone brands, such as Samsung, offer their own apps that replace the Google or AOSP equivalents. Samsung Keyboard is a decent alternative to Gboard thanks to its functionality. Extension support enables a smoother typing experience by allowing you to bring data directly from other apps and services into the text field. For example, if you wanted to send someone a song from Spotify, the extension would allow you to search for it without opening the Spotify app.
Samsung removes YouTube, Grammarly, and Spotify extensions from its Keyboard app
However, it is no longer possible to use the YouTube, Grammarly, and Spotify extensions features of Samsung Keyboard. The reason behind the removal of the extensions is unknown. It is also not known when exactly they were removed. Some suggest that this could have happened a few months ago, but not many had noticed. If this is true, it is possible that these extensions were not widely used, which would partly explain the company’s move.
Some speculate that the YouTube extension allowed users to bypass the video platform’s age restrictions. So, the South Korean giant would have removed it because of that. However, the truth is that there is no official word on this matter.
The Grammarly app offered grammar suggestions as you typed. Basically, it worked in a similar way to the Grammarly extension for desktop browsers. On the other hand, the Spotify extension allowed you to search for everything from songs to playlists on the platform without opening the app. The YouTube extension did the same thing as the Spotify extension, allowing you to bring songs, videos, or podcasts from YouTube to the text field.
There is a built-in alternative for the Grammarly extension
Now that Samsung has removed the aforementioned extensions, its Keyboard app is less functional. However, the company has an alternative to replace one of them: Grammarly. Currently, the Samsung Keyboard app offers a “Writing Assistant” feature that fulfills a similar role.
