Spotify has been trying to corner the audio entertainment market, and audiobooks are a part of its plans. The company offers a ton of audiobooks from top publishers, but the company knows that there are more publishers out there that might not get as much traction. Spotify now offers audiobooks from 100 independent publishers.
Spotify started offering audiobooks to compete with Amazon’s Audible. It’s been racking up on more books over the past few years, and it now has more than 200,000 audiobooks that readers can listen to. If you’re a Spotify Premium user, then you have access to all of them.
If you don’t want to shell out money for the premium subscription, then you can get the Audiobook Access plan. This costs $9.99/month, and you get 15 hours of audiobook listening every month. Unfortunately, you’ll still have to listen to ads.

We should all be familiar with many of the major publishers out there, and we’ve most likely read many books from them. Well, it’s not all about the big players. Spotify just partnered with Ingram Content Group. This is a massive distributor for independent publishers.
This is great, as independent publishers could always use a boost in distribution. It’s so easy to overlook independent publishers because the big-name publishers have more money to throw around for recognition.
The list of publishers includes Europa Editions, Milkweed Editions, G&D Media, Bard Press, and New Society Publishers. You’ll see books like “The Promise” by Damon Galgut, “The Hurting Kind” by Ada Limón’s, “Born Rich” by Bob Proctor, “The Postcard” by Anne Berest, and many more.
If you are new to Spotify, then you should be able to try out a month for free. So, check out either the Premium or Audiobook Access plan. You never know if you’ll find your new favorite book through this service.
