Hot off of Twitter, Sprint is letting their Samsung Epic 4G owners know that a Froyo update is still on its way, as soon as its testing phase is over. Not wanting to find themselves in an Android uproar a la the Samsung/T-Mobile Vibrant Froyo Block conspiracy, Sprint and Samsung are at least keeping customers in the loop about the update status.
The official Sprint tweet(seen below) does say that the Epic Android 2.2(Froyo) release will be made ASAP, as soon as it meets all the criteria for a quality experience.
It’s nice that they have the common courtesy to keep everyone informed, especially knowing how update/upgrade hungry the Android community is becoming. To further the cause, Sprint released the following statement on their blog page:
Epic 4G users: We want to assure you that Froyo for the Epic 4G is still in the works. Sprint works very closely with our manufacturing partners to ensure that we deliver the best possible customer experience on our wireless devices. We approve the release of software updates when a new software version provided by the manufacturer can bring a better overall customer experience on the device. It is our intention to bring these updates to our customers as quickly as possible but only after they meet our rigorous testing criteria.
We can’t provide any guidance on an exact or estimated release date at this time, but please know we are working to get Froyo out for the Epic as quickly as possible.
Still with no release date, we can only assume the Froyo for Epic 4G update is nearing that final stage and should be showing up soon enough. Once it’s made official, we’ll be sure to let you know.
