Verizon is not typically the fastest when it comes to software updates for any of their devices, but that isn’t to say they have follow through with software updates. Two of the latest devices on their lineup to get an update to the most recent version of Android which is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop are two of Samsung‘s tablets: The Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 as well as the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0. Verizon has laid out details as to what tablet owners of either of these models can expect when the updates hit their device, which should be anywhere between now and the next week as the update continues to roll out.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is expected to be launched around the end of this month when Google holds their special event on September 29th, so it might feel like an update to the most recent version of Lollipop is a bit late, but updates can take quite bit of time to hit all supported devices and the Android update process has been this way for years. If you’re an owner of the Verizon Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, you’ll be getting bumped to Android 5.1.1 build LMY47X. As far as changes, Verizon states that Galaxy Apps has been change to auto install following a trigger of users signing into their Samsung account for the first time. Alongside that change, users will now be prompted to log into their Samsung account and setup device protection. KNOX is also getting upgraded from version 2.2 to version 2.4, and the tablet should also see some improved security as the update includes Android security patches.
As for the Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, users of this device can expect all of the previous things coming to the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 in addition to some tweaks specific to the Note Pro 12.2. These changes include Download Booster, as well as a change to “Do Not Disturb” for Blocking Mode. S Finder access will also now be accessible from the quick settings menu in the status tray, and there will now be an included Kids Mode widget. Since both tablets are also now moving up to Lollipop, they’ll see plenty of material design UI changes too as this is a staple of Lollipop.
